Because They Relied Upon The Lord

2 Chronicles 13:18: Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.

The children of Judah greatly prevailed over the rest of the Israelites in spite of the fact that they only had four hundred thousand men against eight hundred thousand men and the eight hundred thousand had the four hundred thousand surrounded. The four hundred thousand killed five hundred thousand. It happened because Judah relied upon the Lord while the rest of the Israelites were unfaithful to Him.

2 Chronicles 13:3: And Abijah set the battle in array with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: Jeroboam also set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, being mighty men of valour.

2 Chronicles 13:17: And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

2 Chronicles 13:13-17: But Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them. 14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind: and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets. 15 Then the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah. 16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah: and God delivered them into their hand. 17 And Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

We don*t have any battles of that magnitude, but if we are on God*s side and He is on ours we are guaranteed victory. In a sense, our battles are greater because they are spiritual. Christians are fighting enemies they can*t even see. They are fighting an enemy within, the flesh, and two enemies from without, the world, and the Devil. We need to rely upon the Lord much more than Abijah and his troops did!! Note that it wasn*t just King Abijah that relied upon the Lord. It was all of the children of Judah.

Ephesians 6:12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

1 Corinthians 15:57: But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 5:4: For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
